The Federation of the European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) unites over 35 000 members of different fields of biochemistry and molecular biology by supporting related research areas through its journals, courses, workshops, and congress meetings. In June 2018 I attended the FEBS Congress in Prague, Czech Republic
Iwent to the congress with a poster presentation of my research. Being on the last year of my PhD, I have gathered quite a bit of experimental data and I was eager to share it with the community, hear some critical responses and maybe get ideas for improvement. My research is related to protein-protein interaction studies, specifically, I'm looking into socalled CW-domains which are very selective to modified histone proteins in the nucleosome core, specifically towards histone H3 modified with methylation at lysine at 4th position (H3K4me1). By the means of structural biology and biophysical methods, in our lab we characterized the binding mechanism which shapes the selectivity of the CW-domain from ASHH2 protein and determined the leading forces of interaction.
