On the 14th to 18th of February 2018, I had the pleasure of attending the European Crohn and Colitis Organization 13th annual meeting “ECCO 18", thanks to a travel grant from NBS. The conference took place in Vienna, Austria.
... The 6700 participants, from all over the world, made ECCO 18 the world's reference event for the presentation and dissemination of advances in the field of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). My main interest in this meeting was to present the preliminary results of my PhD project as a poster presentation, to introduce my research group, The Natural Products and Medicinal Chemistry Research Group, from University of Tromsø The arctic University of Norway to the IBD community and to learn about emerging hot topics in the field. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic disorder that causes abdominal pain, diarrhea, and gastrointestinal bleeding. It has an increasing global prevalence and affects 0.5% to 1% of the population in North America and Europe. However, the pathogenesis of IBD's major forms, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, is complex and so far not fully understood.
