Every two year, scientists involved with Extracelullar Matrix (ECM) gather and exchange ideas, works and results for almost a week in Greece. This time, from 24th to 29thSeptember 2015, the 5th FEBS Advanced Lecture Course on Matrix pathobiology, signaling and molecular targets was organized in the beautiful island of Rhodes in Greece. This was a remarkable experience and I offer my heartfelt
...gratitude to NBS for supporting me financially in order to attend this meeting. The first day of the course started with six general lectures regarding different molecules of ECM by various leaders from their respective fields. These lectures and corresponding speakers were selected by "a young investigators committee" which was established for this meeting to deal with the general lectures as well as tutorials during the first days of the meeting. The main aim of these general lectures was to provide the basic and necessary knowledge to those who were new to the field of matrix pathobiology. These lectures involved topics concerning the structure and functional properties of extracellular matrix, pathobiology, signaling with a focus on proteoglycans, glycans, matrix metalloproteinases, collagen as well as ECM cell surface receptors.
