In mid-March the name of the new Norwegian Centers of Excellence (SFF) were announced by NFR. It was delightful to find Harald Stenmark, UiO and Radiumhospitalet, and Stefan Krauss, UiO and Rikshospitalet among the new center leaders.
Congratulations to both for their Centers for "Cancer Cell Reprogramming" and "Developing an integrated open access organ on chip platform for drug discovery", with strong fundament in biochemistry, molecular biology and biotechnology. Both centers have also a manifested emphasis on innovation, aiming to use the generated knowledge to develop and test new therapies. For Stenmark this award is a recognition to continuous outstanding achievements during their previous SFF. According to the announcement from NFR, the main criteria for selection of the new centers have been scientific quality and high international level. The awards will provide the necessary long-term basic funding to allow pursuing risky and ambitious research programs, recruiting the best candidates and maintaining a wide-ranging international collaboration.
